This is a diet that push the body primarily to burning fat.
The ketogenic diet (ketogonos) is a diet very low in carbohydrates where the objective is to bring the body into a metabolic state where burns fat as the main fuel in contrast to the usual which is glucose (sugar).
The keto diet has existed for 90 years. This diet was designed in 1924 by Dr. Russel Wilder at Mayo Clinic to treat epilepsy. Since then be studied for many therapeutic dimensions.
Ketosis is a metabolic condition of the body where there is no enough glucose available to be used as energy, thus our body uses as energy molecules called ketones which are produced by fats breakdown.
Are all diets low in carbohydrate, ketogenic?
This is far from reality. The result of the ketotic diet, is a condition called ketosis is not the same in all humans and may never occur in some people.
The biggest factor in whether or not a diet is ketotic diet has to do with how low-carbo is. A modest reduction in carbohydrates can be very useful to many people, but this is not a ketogenic diet.
State of ketosis is the metabolic state, which is an increased level of blood ketone or ketone particles.
The nutritional ketosis is just a normal metabolic process, as the body’s response to the lack of glucose in which the body’s cells use for fuel, substances derived from the breakdown of fat are called ketones .
Keto diet can have altering the relationships in macro nutrient (Carbohydrates, Fats and Proteins) in our nutrition. There are many types of keto diet with different each other. In general, keto diet is rich in fat, adequate protein and low in carbohydrates.
This combination changes the way the body uses energy. The fat in the liver converts fatty acids and ketone bodies or ketone.
Another effect of the keto diet is that reduces glucose levels and improve the insulin resistance and this is a main positive effect for many diseases.
